Great Loop Date: 08.30.2010 (Monday): Some Family Time…

Day 18: 382.2 miles (today: 0 miles in 0 hours at 0 mph)

Port #7

Today my cousin Marilyn and her husband Don came to visit and see OB for the first time. Don just retired from LSSU (Lake Superior State University) in Sault St. Marie, MI. He was the women’s softball coach there for nearly ever, I think. I don’t have very many relatives left…5 to be exact. All cousins. Marilyn is the only family that I get to see and we both wish it were more often.

Todd and I had hoped to take OB up to the Soo to visit Marilyn and Don in their own back yard, since it is on the St. Mary River. However, time and weather has created a problem. They arrived early afternoon with Abbey, their Spaniel. Charlie was delighted someone that talks his language came to visit him.

Don, me and my cousin, Marilyn...love you both!
We gave Marilyn and Don (and Abbey) the grand tour, Todd and Don went over the electronics and I think they are both fit for duty now.

Capt. Todd, 1st Mate in Training - Abbey and Capt. Intern Don.

We had a wonderful visit and a fine dinner at Darrow’s, a Mac City family owned restaurant that has been around since the mid-1900s. They are known for their pies and anyone who knows me knows I generally check out dessert before I order dinner. This time I put in my order for Dutch Four Berry Pie before I ordered dinner. I was told they many times run out of pie before you get a chance to order it. Not this time! I ended up taking it back to the boat for a bedtime snack…and slept berry well, thank you.

  1. Thanks for sharing pics of mom and dad! They look great as well as you and Todd and Charlie! I have totally enjoyed keeping up to date with your blog! What an amazing experience. You should write a book after this trip!
