Todd and I were both pretty under the weather on Thursday. Our colds really have taken us down. Todd also needed to find out where to get a new Shurflo water pump to replace the one that is going out. So we took the day to catch up affairs and try to get a handle on our health. We did manage to get to Giordano's Pizza, one of Chicago's famous pizza establishments (after Geno's and Uno's).
Friday Todd was able to arrange to have a Shurflo pump shipped to our stop in Peoria. We did have good news that the water pump was guaranteed for three years. Since it was only two years old, we were able to get this replacement at no cost!
Feeling much better, we decided to take the Architectural River Tour. It was AMAZING! We learned a lot about the beautiful buildings that are Chicago. Chicago has tried to preserve it's historical features among the new.
We learned why many of the newer buildings have rounded features (representative of the modern era...1960s on), triangular and wavy features (representative of the lake, river and sail boats), and even some of the older buildings that look like armchairs and champagne bottles in the architects mind.
I'm going to load this entry with pictures from our tour. At a later date, I will match up the pictures with the architect, the year it was built and the feature it represents. For now, I need to keep this blog moving.
Please understand that I love art and photography, so out of the more than 200 pictures I took, only a small sampling follow. I will try to make an album of all of them on my Facebook later today.
You can click on each picture to make it later. I have decreased the pixels to make downloading faster, so the resolution isn't as great as the originals in my file.
Notice the reflective nature of the old and especially the new buildings. It is part of the artwork that is Chicago.
Also notice all of the 'green'. There are over 500 parks in Chicago because they feel everyone should be able to walk to a park.
And there's always Navy Pier! It changes everytime I go to Chicago!
So Chicago is now in our rearview mirror...but I will always come back for more!

Thanks for the photos.
ReplyDeleteI understand about taking lotsa pictures. When my wife and I went Down Under in 1999, we took about 1500 pictures. 384 of them ended up in the book we carried around to show and 187 ended up on the website.
I love Chi-town! I will have to pay it another visit soon....Navy Pier is an awesome place to visit. I am so jeallous of you! Continue to have fun and I am hopeful I will catch you when your paralel to me just to say hi before you get to far south.
